Come inside our mobile planetarium and discover the universe around you. The Stardome is the portable, inflatable planetarium that comes to you!

Topics covered can include day and night, seasons, stars, planets, solar system, gravity, phases of the moon and constellations. If you have any specific areas you would like covered, just ask and we can do our best to accommodate!

Advanced Stardome sessions are available.

The following direct science curriculum topics are covered:

Predictable phenomena on Earth, including seasons and eclipses, are caused by the relative positions of the sun, Earth and moon.

The Earth is part of a system of planets orbiting around the sun.

Earth’s rotation on its axis causes regular changes, including night and day.

Forces can be exerted by one object on another through direct contact or from a distance.

Daily and seasonal changes in our environment, including the weather, affect everyday life.

The constellations are discussed and the stories behind a number of prominent constellations are used to bring the sky to life and provide a memorable experience for the students. Stories from other cultures are included to show the importance of culture in interpreting the night sky.

Please note, the StarDome requires an indoor space of 7 m x 7m with an unobstructed ceiling height of 3.2m and one power point. The Starlab is 11 m in diameter and requires an unobstructed ceiling height of 4.5 m with access to one power point.

How do you see? How do you hear? Find out about lenses, reflections and vibrations in this popular workshop. Students will be enthralled with the practical demonstrations and various workstations which will help them to explore the phenomenon which many of us take for granted – sight and sound!

SciWorld’s Fire and Ice Show!

This is a show which celebrates two opposing forces – fire and ice.  You’ll learn all about heat and the opposing temperature extremes found in Liquid Nitrogen.  It’s a one-stop show that isn’t to be missed!

Light Up Your Mind!  A show about Light!

Suitable for Year 2 to Year 10.

What is light? Why do we see colours? How is a rainbow made? Become a scientist and investigate the science of light in this interactive show. Featuring glowing chemical reactions, lasers, and iridescent bubbles, we’ll make the physics of light fun and easily understandable. Explore how fireworks are made and learn how a bee sees a flower… and you might even learn the secret to invisibility!

This show focuses on Energy and Forces. We cover Newton’s Laws of Motion and the ideas of kinetic and potential energy. A fun take on physics with plenty of action!

Simple Machines Push Pull!

An introduction to forces, this hands-on workshop teaches children through simple experiments at workstations all about machines, levers, magnets and pulleys in every day practical applications. It will introduce the concepts of FORCES and WORK and hence show how machines enable us to do work much more easily. It will introduce the 6 simple machines which are the basic building blocks of all other machines. 012

Mathemania Workshop

Years 3 – 7.

This hands on workshop shows how much fun maths can be! Students work in groups with puzzles involving numeracy, shape, logic and problem solving. Learn about binary numbers, topology, loops, and more!

Maths Quest Workshop

Pre-school – Year 2

Help Jacinta to find her treasure by listening to the story and using Maths to help her on her way. As a perfect introduction to Maths, children of all ages will love this interactive, hands on workshop where they’ll use a variety of maths puzzles to solve problems and help fictional characters on their quest!

Minerals, Magmas and Martians:  Geology of Rocky Planets

What is inside the earth and what is around us?  Through practical activities you’ll learn about the interior structure of rocky planets, how volcanoes are made and why some are different shapes, volcanic eruptions, rocks and rocky planets, the role of erosion the the rock cycle and more.

Energy and Forces

Learn about heat, energy and forces, sound, electricity and light. Explore gravitational potential and kinetic energy. Forces can be push and pull, Energy makes things happen. Learn about all this and more in a practical hands-on 90 minute workshop. Teacher notes are available and worksheets will be sent out upon booking.

It Really Is Rocket Science Workshop

Years 3 – 7

Designed by our resident rocket engineer, this workshop will teach you not only how to make and launch your own low pressure and high pressure rockets, but you’ll also learn about the dynamics behind rockets, forces – balanced and unbalanced, Newton’s Laws of Motion, air pressure and predictions.
