Ever wanted to turn a light on using just your brain?

In our SciWorld neuroscience workshop, you’ll have a chance to get hands-on (or is it heads-on?) experience with brain-computer interfaces and turn a light on and off at will! Come along and you can also measure your brain activity in a real-time demonstration using state-of-the-art technology.

NEW!  Colours we can’t see show

This is an incredible new show which uses a Thermal Imaging, InfraRed Camera to explore the world of light.  All around us are electromagnetic waves, but the colours we can see are only a tiny fraction of them.  This exciting new show will use technology to enable the audience to “see” extra colours beyond both ends of the visible spectrum.  At one end is Ultra-Violet (UV) and the other end is Infra-Red (IR).  You’ll be absolutely amazed at the things you will be able to “see” that are normally invisible to us (although some animals can see and use UV or IR!) and this technology is becoming increasingly important in the modern world.  It is guaranteed to give you a whole new way of looking at the world around us.

New!   Making Waves:  Powering the future of our planet!

Making Waves: Powering the future of our planet is a show that will reinforce how precious our planet is.  Celebrating the National Science Week theme 2020 of “Deep Blue”, it’s a show that will explore the power of the ocean to the wind on the land, the energy we harness and use is vitally important for our planet’s future.  The is show will teach you about energy use and conservation with a range of scientific demonstrations that will wow you – from on-stage lightning to air pressure and cool waves – this is a show to visually show you how we make waves to power the future of our planet.

Seeing Stars in our StarDome Session or New Digital Starlab

Reception – Year 9
45 minutes duration.
30 students

Reception – Year 10

45 minutes duration

60 students

Come inside our mobile planetarium and discover the universe around you. The Stardome / Starlab is the portable, inflatable planetarium that comes to you!

Topics covered can include day and night, seasons, stars, planets, solar system, gravity, phases of the moon and constellations. If you have any specific areas you would like covered, just ask and we can do our best to accommodate!

Advanced Stardome sessions are available.

The following direct science curriculum topics are covered:

Predictable phenomena on Earth, including seasons and eclipses, are caused by the relative positions of the sun, Earth and moon.

The Earth is part of a system of planets orbiting around the sun.

Earth’s rotation on its axis causes regular changes, including night and day.

Forces can be exerted by one object on another through direct contact or from a distance.

Daily and seasonal changes in our environment, including the weather, affect everyday life.

The constellations are discussed and the stories behind a number of prominent constellations are used to bring the sky to life and provide a memorable experience for the students. Stories from other cultures are included to show the importance of culture in interpreting the night sky.

Please note, the StarDome requires an indoor space of 7 m x 7m with an unobstructed ceiling height of 3.2m and one power point.  The Starlab is 11 m in diameter and needs an unobstructed ceiling height of 4.5m.
